Styria has been operating a liaison office for the European Union in Brussels since 1994.
The Steiermark Office observes current issues of European politics, organises and supports political delegations, and represents Styria in Brussels.

Tasks
Collecting and evaluating information
Developing positions and networking strategies in cooperation with administrative bodies and partners in Styria.
Attending conferences, workshops and hearings in Brussels.
Selecting and evaluating information from Europe that is relevant to Styria.
Representing Styrian interests
Communicating Styrian positions and interests to decision-makers at the European institutions.
Consulting for Styrian decision-makers
Organising meetings between politicians and experts with decision-makers and representatives of European institutions. Providing support to the Styrian members of the Committee of the Regions.
Organising study trips and advocating training
Training regional civil servants and experts.
Organising and accompanying educational trips for politicians, associations, unions, and universities.
Representing Styria
Presenting the region, its economic strengths, cultural and regional specificities.
Creating awareness among European decision-makers about development potential and regional needs and requirements.
Service
Observing European developments and obtaining information
Liaison between European institutions and the responsible Styrian administrative departments and offices.
The Styrian legislative and administrative bodies are informed about current developments at an early stage: legislative initiatives of the European Commission, activities and procedures of the European Parliament and the Committee of the Regions, political developments including the presentation of current initiatives, government conferences, or European Councils.
Replying to concrete queries on issues relating to Europe
Every Styrian can contact the Steiermark Office if they have questions about the EU.
Establishing contacts with European institutions
The Steiermark Office provides assistance in the search for contact persons in the European Commission or at the European Parliament.
Preparing meetings for the Committee of the Regions
Preparing plenary sessions and meetings of the presidency and supporting the Styrian members in participating in meetings.
Visitor service
The Steiermark Office provides assistance and information about EU topics of relevance to Styria to visiting delegations from schools, universities, municipal councils, social partners, political parties, Styrian companies, and organisations.
Representing Styria
All the many facets of Styria are demonstrated at cultural events, technical conferences, lectures, and presentations in Brussels.
Cooperating with other state representations and regional offices
Definition and pursuit of interests and topics together with other Austrian liaison offices and the representations of other European regions.
Supporting young Styrians in education and (further) training
The Steiermark Office offers internships for Styrian students and young graduates in Brussels.
