EUGEM Events

Within the context of Europe Day 2006, Styrian schools presented their international projects, which have been in development since 1995.  

Ten Masters of Ceremony competed at the event which took place in Styria.  

In April 2006, the EU-Roadshow found its way to Styria for the first time, making stops in Liezen, Graz and Hartberg. Under the motto, "Europe is coming - come along too!," the Roadshow was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and the EU-Presidency of the Council.  

The municipality of Deutschlandsberg distinguished itself as a European Municipality (EUropaGEMeinde) over the Palm Weekend 2006 with the unveiling of a 33 feet high easter egg.  

The EUGEM-training in Liezen got a warm response.  

On February 9, 2006 Lebring - St. Margarethen became a European Municipality.  

"How close to Our Heart is Europe for Us Styrians?" - Styrian retirees from argrarian professions dealt with this question in the course of the eponymous seminar held in St. Martin in Graz. The discussion made clear that senior citizens treasure peace and security, but find it rather difficult to connect these values with the aims of the European Union.  

The number of vacationers from new EU-countries in Styria has been rising faster than average. In a period of ten years, the number of winter guests from Hungary in the area of Murau has risen eight times as fast as the total number of vacationers. In the early summer of 2006, a symposium organized by the EU-project EUGEM will deal with the issue of "Integrated Tourism," in order to show new perspectives that opening up to the East may bring with it.  

Romanian-orthodox metropolitan Laurentiu Streza from Sibiu talked about problems and hopes of Romanian citizens before accession to the European Union in the context of the EU-project "EUGEM - EUropaGEMeinde Steiermark".  

The Municipality of Stallhofen was the first Styrian municipality to be presented a "Europe-Information-Box". Franz Feirer, general manager of the municipality and Dagmar Klimascek are the contact persons for issues pertaining to the European Union.
